What Are We Looking For In Our Owners?
Also, remember that there are a limited number of puppies in every litter. If you are not chosen, it could just be that another family was a better fit for this litter. We chose homes based on what we know of the litter’s pedigree and what we foresee their lifetime requirements to be. Every litter will be a little different. You may be a perfect fit for our next litter.
Interested in helping us further the breed, consider becoming a co-owner. To be a co-owner you must have a love for the breed, be committed to showing and sporting, and be willing to work as part of our team.
- 1. You must own a home or be in a stable long-term living situation. CsVs bond very closely with their humans. Therefore, rehoming them is hard and emotional for them. You need to be in a position where you can make a lifelong commitment (12 to 15 years) to them. We want their first home to be their only home.
- 2. CsVs can be very destructive and great escape artists. You must be prepared for this. Strong fencing and an indoor kennel (or secure room) are necessary. When left alone they are very good at finding trouble.
- 3. You must know your state and local laws as they pertain to dogs. CsVs are purebred dogs but some cities/states do classify them as wolf hybrids under their laws. Before you consider owning one, check with local law enforcement and your local fish and wildlife office.
- 4. CsVs can have same sex aggression issues. This must be considered prior to getting one. If need be, are you prepared to have dogs that may need to live separately or be supervised together at all times?
- 5. This is a breed that was designed to work and they need a job. We would like owners that are will be active with their dog.
- 6. You should have a trusted (positive) dog trainer in your area. Obedience training is great not only for learning commands but for controlled socialization. With this breed that is huge.
- You must have a vet that is willing to work with the breed. Again, they are dogs but some vet offices do not treat wolf hybrids and may consider your CsV as one under their policies.
- We want owners that are going to stay in touch. Every puppy born at Vegvisir is part of our family. We want to hear how they are doing and be able to watch them grow. Through the good and bad, we are here for you.
- We want owners that have done their research and have a great understand of the breed and their needs. This is not a breed to get on a whim. They are a lot of work and being prepared and informed is the best start you can give your puppy.
